The Allmans took the stage around 7:20 p.m. and lit into “Revival,” the first track off 1970’s Idlewild South. When “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin'” came next, it was clear the band intended to perform their sophomore studio effort first at Mountain Jam. Surprisingly, the Allman Brothers Band only welcomed one guest on Sunday night -keyboardist Pete Levin. Levin, who’s currently a member of Gregg Allman’s solo band, sat in on “Please Call Home” as well as the “Statesboro Blues” encore.
After the Allmans reeled off all seven songs from Idlewild South, they started in on the material from their 1969 self-titled debut. As mentioned earlier, they performed every track off the LP with the exception of “Every Hungry Woman.” The group wound up playing one two-hour set followed by the “Statesboro” encore at Mountain Jam.
The highlight of the set was a glorious take on “Dreams” featuring solos from both Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks. Watch fan-shot footage of “Dreams” thanks to Matthew Frasier:
Though the members of Allman Brothers Band have announced their intentions to part ways following a run of shows at the Beacon Theatre in October, keyboardist Gregg Allman raised eyebrows by stating “we’ll have to do this again sometime” after the group’s set. Next up for the Allmans is a pair of performances at The Peach Music Festival in Scranton, PA this August.
