On September 6, The Allman Brothers Band will release the four-CD live archival set Fillmore West ’71 via The Orchard/Allman Brothers Band Recording Company. Another preview of the previously unreleased set has been shared in the form of “Midnight Rider” from January 29, 1971.

Fillmore West ’71 was recorded over the course of three nights at the famed Fillmore West in San Francisco January 29 – 31, 1971. The set also includes a bonus track of the ABB’s “Mountain Jam” from March 13, 1970 at The Warehouse in New Orleans. Fillmore West ’71 was culled from two-track, reel-to-reel tapes of the concerts that were in the possession of crew members Twiggs Lyndon, Joe Dan Perry and Mike Callahan for 40+ years before the band reacquired the recordings.

“Midnight Rider” comes from the first disc which features the ABB’s January 29, 1971 performance at Fillmore West. The Allmans recorded a studio version of the song for inclusion on 1970’s Idlewild South, the band’s latest album at the time of the Fillmore West concerts. Gregg Allman wrote “Midnight Rider” with an assist from Robert Kim Payne.
