Allman Brothers Band Dedicate Final Festival Set To Farmer

Back in June The Allman Brothers Band announced they will end an illustrious 45-year career with a run of six shows at the Beacon Theatre in NYC this October. The group’s last performance before the Beacon run took place last night at the Lockn’ Festival in Arrington, VA; which if the current situation holds was the Allmans’ final festival set ever.

The Allman Brothers Band dedicated their Lockn’ performance to Brian Farmer, Warren Haynes’ longtime guitar tech who tragically died last month. Haynes made the announcement that the set was dedicated to his old friend, while Susan Tedeschi dedicated the Tedeschi Trucks Band’s set to Brian earlier in the weekend. Each member of the Allman Brothers Band sported a t-shirt featuring a photo of Farmer giving the ol’ double middle finger salute.

As previously announced, the bulk of the Allmans’ set consisted of material from their legendary live album At Fillmore East. Last night’s set began with romps through all seven songs off that landmark LP, which ended with a “Hot ‘Lanta,” “Liz Reed,” “Whipping Post” trifecta. From there, the Allmans served up a rendition of “Midnight Rider” that was followed by a stand out “Mountain Jam” > “Blue Sky” > “Little Martha” > “Mountain Jam” sequence to close out what just may be the final Allman Brothers Band festival set ever.
