A Mountainous Night For Lesh, Herring, Haynes And Friends

By Scott Bernstein Dec 5, 2013 6:15 am PST

Last night at Terrapin Station bassist Phil Lesh reunited with longtime “Q” members John Molo, Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring as well as Furthur band mate Jeff Chimenti and venue regular Neal Casal for the first show of a four-night stand. The ensemble focused on “Mountain” songs starting with the “Jam” > “Mountains Of The Moon” opener.

Lesh and his mates dipped into many songs from the “Q” repertoire throughout the evening, with the biggest surprise coming early in the second set when the band, which features two one-time Allman Brothers Band guitarists, performed the instrumental “Mountain Jam.” Phil had played “Mountain Jam” on his most recent tour as part of covering all of Eat A Peach. Haynes and Lesh handled the majority of the vocals throughout the evening with Casal taking a few turns as well. Besides “Mountains Of The Moon” and “Mountain Jam,” the group also delivered takes on “Mountain Song” and “Fire On The Mountain.” The “Q” recorded an album called There And Back Again in 2002 and performed the single off that album, “Night Of A Thousand Stars” to kick off set two.
