Talented youngster Owen York, now age 13, has been playing piano medleys and mashups since he first sat down at a keyboard in 2009. In his newest work, “Sugar Ocelot Earrings,” Owen combines portions of the Grateful Dead’s “Sugar Magnolia,” Phish’s “Ocelot” and Steely Dan’s “Green Earrings” into one seamless medley:

Last year Owen played keyboards with Umphrey’s McGee and performed David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust” at Madison Square Garden. York is the youngest member of the Rockland Youth Jazz Ensemble, consisting of musicians from New York and New Jersey. The Ensemble has its next gig at Trumpets Jazz Club in Montclair, New Jersey, on April 2.

In Fall 2016 Owen recorded a mashup of songs from David Bowie, Queen, Rage Against the Machine and Umphrey’s McGee called “Killing In The Name Of Attachments Under Pressure”:

He has already performed well-received medleys of Radiohead, Umphrey’s McGee, Bowie, The Who and Beck. Keep your eyes on Owen’s YouTube channel for more from York and for future music.
