Nationals Fans Continue Phish Wilson Chant Into Playoffs

It was easy to hear the fans chant on last night’s television broadcast on Fox Sports 1 when Ramos came to the plate, especially in the ninth inning:
The Fox broadcasters, who clearly were unfamiliar with Phish, said something along the lines of “there sure must be a lot of Tom Hanks fans on hand at the stadium” in reference to the 1995 film Castaway. Unfortunately for Nationals fans, they may not get to continue the “Wilson” chant this October unless the team wins the next two games in San Francisco as last night’s loss put the Washington club down 2-0 to the Giants.
Nationals fans aren’t the first group of fans to greet a “Wilson” with the Phish chant. In April of 2013 Phish front man Trey Anastasio implored Seattle-area fans to use the “Wilson” chant for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. The chant caught on as the Seahawks won their way to the Super Bowl.
