Perpetual Groove’s Brock Butler & Matt McDonald Share Stage

On April 5, 2013 Perpetual Groove said farewell with a “final show” at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, GA that served as the start of an indefinite hiatus that continues through the present. Brock Butler went off to work on himself after that show, while the other three members of the band formed Ghost Owl. Last night, Butler finally shared the stage with one of his PGroove band mates for the first time since the band’s finale, when Matt McDonald sat in during Butler’s performance at the Green Room.

McDonald hopped on guitar for performances of four songs to start the second set last night. Matt and Brock kicked off the second set with a cover of “All The Money I Had Is Gone” by The Deep Dark Woods. The duo then treated fans to PGroove original “TSMM” and a cover of Modest Mouse’s “Float On” before ending their collaboration with a stirring rendition of “Sweet Oblivious Antidote” -one of Perpetual Groove’s trademark songs.

Check out a few clips that have surfaced thus far:

Here’s the setlist from Butler’s show last night:

Set One: Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked, Smile Again (To See Yours), When the Morning Comes, God’s Gonna Cut You Down, There She Goes, Most People, Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes

Set Two: All the Money I Had Is Gone*, TSMM*, Float On*, Sweet Oblivious Antidote*, Dear Prudence, Wildflowers, Anything Less Than Dearly, DLZ

Brock now heads down to Florida, where he’s hosting an open mic night at the Dunedin Brewery. Be sure to check out our recent feature on Matt’s Ghost Owl project.
