Copeland & Popper Guest With Les Claypool Duo de Twang

We were two-thirds of the way towards an Oysterhead reunion last night when Stewart Copeland sat in on drum (singular) with Les Claypool’s Duo de Twang. Stewart wasn’t the only guest during Les’s second performance of the day as John Popper stopped in as well at NYC’s McKittrick Hotel.

The show started with a rousing rendition of the National Anthem performed by Puddles The Clown, who emerged later with trumpet in hand for “Stayin’ Alive.” Copeland came out to play a lone snare drum on Jerry Horton’s “The Battle Of New Orleans” and “Pipeline.” Les and Stewart were band mates in Oysterhead -a trio that also included guitarist Trey Anastasio. Oysterhead has been mothballed since 2006. The former Police drummer last guested with Duo de Twang back in August. Stewart gave his pal Les a kiss upon departing the stage. Blues Traveler front man John Popper lent his harmonica skills to a handful of numbers at the show including a cover of Johnny Cash’s “Cocaine Blues.”
