Gov’t Mule Tackling Entire Albums At Island Exodus

Hearty jam rockers Gov’t Mule are currently down in Jamaica for this year’s installment of their Island Exodus destination event. So far the band has reeled off two of the three full shows at Grand Lido Resort in Negril, Jamaica and the band has had quite a treat in store for their dedicated fans.

Mule has opened up each of their two-set shows by performing their first two studio albums in their entirety with the help of saxophonist Bill Evans. On Wednesday night Gov’t Mule played their 1995 self-titled debut in its entirety. Evans came out to help on “Trane,” “Mule” and “Dolphineus.” The band worked a number of covers into Wednesday’s second set including a take on “Little Wing” featuring Evans and Tash Neal of The London Souls and a “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl” > “54-46” > “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl” > “That’s What Love Will Make You Do” with Evans, Neal and JJ Grey. Evans and Neal came back out for the “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home” encore.

Last night Warren Haynes and Co. spent the first set working through their 1998 album “Dose” in its entirety. Evans came out for “Birth Of The Mule” and “John The Revelator.” Thursday’s second set was also a guest-laden affair with Evans helping out on “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” while Tash Neal joined the fray on “Sco-Mule.” Following a “Drums & Sax” segment, Evans, Neal, Grey and Machan Taylor guested on “Take Me To The River.” The encore saw Mule perform “Trouble Every Day” with Bill Evans and “Smokestack Lightning” with Evans, Neal and Grey.
