i was thinking the same thing. i heard they were supposed to get back together, but i guess now it is confirmed.

it also seems like this lineup is almost the same as the Bonnaroo lineup. I thought these festivals were supposed to be polar opposites?

is De La Rocha back in Rage now? I was just saying yesterday how badly I would like to see Air. This line up looks more enticing then past line ups...I wonder when they will start iffering the option of a $600 ticket if you get to walk around in a little air conditioned booth all day...then...i might just go to out to Indio.

Granted, I'm an admitted old fart. But this lineup reads like DJ voiceovers on a Mexican radio station. Nothing sounds even remotely familiar until a seemingly errant tidbit of non-translatable gold is tossed into the mix.

"Blah, blah, blah, blah-blah blah, blah, la musica del Willie Nelson y la Familia, blah, blah-blah blah, blah."

I'm all about eclectic mixes of music. But this is a bit out there. Hopefully, Willie, Gillian and Nickel Creek will play a stage with chicken wire at the front, because I fear they'll be as welcome as Jake and Elwood at Bob's Country Bunker.

Just wondering...Do you get a free tattoo and neon dye job for your $300 ticket and camping fee?

Since I'm such a "glass is half FULL" kind of guy, here's a Jambase-flavored alternative (also in the southwest) to this late April alternative gathering:

From today's articles...

"Bob Weir & RatDog and the Los Lonely Boys will headline the McDowell Mountain Music Festival in April. The 4th annual music festival will feature will benefit the Boys Hope Girls Hope of Arizona and Phoenix Day Child & Family Learning Center, which serves local children and families in need. Other confirmed acts include The Neville Brothers, Toots & the Maytals, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Railroad Earth, Tea Leaf Green, Jackie Greene, Gelatinous Groove, Walt Richardson & the Peaceful Warriors, 2 Tone Lizard Kings, and Azz Izz. The multi-band gathering will take place April 27-28 in Scottsdale, AZ."

And something tells me you may not have to pay $300 to camp and hear the music.

Rage isn't back. Rage is performing 1 show only. Zack is using this show (weirdly if I may add), as a means to get his solo career (which has been brewing in the L.A.-hiphop and "indy" Latino-fusion scene for quite some time now) on the radar. This is loosely (as with everything else right now in the media) from reputable sources (Guerilla Union and other L.A. area-based promoters) who Zack had informed about his "comeback" plans for early 2007. Not to sound like a f'n know-it-all (I think I've already annoyingly done that by now), but I thought I would put my two buck comment in for kicks just like the rest of us who love Rage and are HOPING TO GOD they don't bring out "Black Thought" of The Roots for a song or two. Costly ticket? You bet. But what isn't these days. The Battle of Indio has begun.

Come see Rage Against the Machine and pay $250...ya the machine...

I'm going to have to agree with a few other ppl who posted. This is a pretty good lineup, but there's hardly any jam-savvy bands (not jamband-scene bands specifically but ya know... bands who jam, and I love jams), and also, the ticket price is a little ridonculous. Plus, all the way across the country for me, I personally am proly not gonna go.

What is hip? Hipper than hip? Definetely not this fest. I guess the promoters believe that if you book 1000000000000 bands it will make up for the fact that only a few of them are worth listening to for an entire show. Rage is cool, but they are in the Journey/Styx kareoke stage of their career (if you don't believe me I'm sure you'll see it at the festival). Just doesn't seem fresh or original to me, especially the with the prices, but if you wanna pay $300 for an Under The Bridge/Bulls on Parade sing-a-long (never heard THOSE songs before), go right ahead.

If you do go to this festival check out Air and Infected Mushroom, two unique groups that will shine above and beyond many of the others. Headie ears will not be dissappointed.

only a few bands worth seeing??? Are you fuckin crazy?? Have you lost your mind?? Clearly you need to listen to more music than the "jam" scene. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan on the jamband scene, but there are 30-40 bands i would love to see at coachella and would love to see the entire show!!! Open your ears, there is more to hear than monotonous jams that go on for 30 minutes!!

2. $250??????????? Mother fucker! That's out of hand. Langerado's got some competition on the "greediest festival" circuit.

3. Willie, huh? Seems out of place but then again, if there's ANYTHING a lineup like this could use its Willie. Keep these kids real.

THANK YOU SMOKEY 82832! I agree, big f'n SURPRISE that Coachella is NOT a "jamband" festival. It's not SUPPOSED to be, so some kids here need to quit whining and try not to get your Calvin Klein tye-dyed panties in a bunch. If some of us here were anywhere near "jamband" fans, we wouldn't give a Ratdog's ass who's playing where and for how much cuz it's all just music. Christ! I loved Phish and dig a sh**load of so called "jambands" too but Jambase is a MUSIC site. If Coachella is such a Pepsi-Machine-Corporate festival, then B-Roo is just as good as Coke my friends. Radiohead played BOTH of these festivals, so as far as I'm concerned (and yes I know they're not a jamband, thanks) music festivals are exactly what they are. Music festivals. Meatloaf. Fuck.

It's not the $249 ticket price that is the problem. That's only $83 per day, or about $4 per band.

The problem is that Palm Desert, California is a very expensive place to live. Hotels in the area are not cheap. Plus, most close hotels are probably close to being sold out, as people book way in advance when they know the dates.

Therefore, to go to Coachella if you don't live in So. Cal., you have to stay about 60 miles away, and then face the hours of traffic to and from the festival each day. Driving several hours (back to your hotel) after you've been in the heart of the desert all day is not something I'd personally want to do, even for such a great line-up that includes the JAMC, Crowded House, and Travis reunions, in addition to the RATM everyone is talking about.

Also, everyone is overlooking the fact that Manu Chao performances in North America are extremely, extremely, rare.

Other than headlining the second day of Lollapalooza last year, Manu Chao has not played the U.S. in (15? 20? ever?) years.

How is everyone forgetting about Crowded House? Give me a break and get off this festie's nuts. There IS a reason why people trash festivals on this message board, and its called an opinion. Close-minded, eh? Crappy bands? Some hypocrites you are. You kids crack me up sometimes. It's always the same thing in these comments. Take note: 1) Not all music festivals are, or should be, jamband-oriented, so stop getting upset when they aren't invited. 2) Not all jambands have talent, including some of your favorites, so stop making them out to be better than everything else. 3) Some of you so-called hippies are just as uniformed and intolerant as the people you put down, so get off your high horse.

A number of these bands I've seen at other festivals I've been to in the last few years and it's always hard to catch a lot of new stuff when there's so much to see. Rage would be awesome, but I don't think they warrant the cost of getting there (from VA), hotel or camping, and ticket, plus other expenses. Maybe another year.

To answer your question (and this comes from a legit source) the original R.A.T.M. won't be there. Management is working on a deal to either have Chris Cornell front the show, or possibly Chuck D from Public Enemy. Rumour sources also have mentioned B-Real of Cypress Hill, and (although highly unlikely) former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio.

This is crap, $300 for what? I'll bet that Rage has an hour to hour and a half set and thats it. Last year the Mars Volta only had 45 minutes to an hour I believe. Saw the Chilli Peppers recently and it was over priced and sounded bad, thats what I expect from this. The whole ticketmaster thing makes it 10 times worse. ha

some kick ass lesser known bands, like explosions in the sky, black keys (from my hometown), kings,!!!, LCD soundsystem, and AIR. if you've never seen an AIR show its pretty ridic. great lights and effects. 250 is a little hefty for my stylings, and I see a serious lack of jam, but still, some good indie rock.

Its hard not to get excited about RAGE. Normally, shelling out $250 to line the pockets of Dodge, Virgin Records, and AT&T wouldn't bother me. Big money brings big acts. But paying that much to see RAGE? Even the biggest RAGE supporters gotta admit the irony. I hope they are back for good, but harbor doubts they may be a caricature of their old selves.

As for the rest of the lineup, its based on Indie-Rock. Coachella has never tried to hide this. Let them have their thing. There are some really good acts to be found in the mix.

if they add Panic, dTb, Allman Bros., Outformation, Old Union, The Meters, Phil and Friends, Little Feat, Ratdog, G-Mule, The Wailers, Black Crowes, ARU, NMAS, Old Crow Medicine Show, Jmmy Buffett, Jack Pearson Band, Galatic, P-Groove, OysterHead, and of course O.A.R.

and then drop all the bands but Willie, the black keys, the avett bros., and Gillian Welch.........

Hey LTC freak,

As I said only wanta be gangbangers like you show up, HOMEBOY. People like you need everything to be defined by genre (Reggae, Rock, Country) so they're puny brains can keep up with it. Some people need to be told what to think from the record companies and insist on calling it cool because others agree with it. All sheep eat grass, that doesn't make grass good food.

I've been to Coachella. Isn't it funny that Coachella has NEVER invited a Jamband because ( I repeat) those tools are so close minded. They hide it by saying our scene is closed minded. The only difference is we invite and sometimes enjoy coachella type acts to our festivals, but Coachella would consider it sacriliege to invite any Psychadelic music. they're better than us. Punk rockers are always the first to sell out because they stand for nothing but stomping people and anarchy.

Stamp on your tattoo and put on your uniform and shut up.

bigfro, what you've just typed might be the most egregious case of hypocrisy I've ever witnessed in a forum such as this. You should be ashamed of yourself calling anyone close-minded in the same breath as your intolerant and hate-filled rant. If it's not the fest for you, don't go. But you have to let go of the idea that it's not an eclectic mix just because your favorite jambands aren't there. It's just not true.

The bottom line here is that this line-up, overall musically speaking is just 'ok.' The price of this festival is completely insane. I love Rage and I love jambands, and I would love to see a lot of acts at Coachella, but for $250? There must be a typo. The best ecelectic line-up in recent times for a pretty penny was Lollapalooza. You had something for everyone there; from Particle to Kanye to Matisyahu to Sonic Youth. They did a hell of a job with that line-up, and it wasn't $250. They better add some show-stoppers to the list, otherwise I don't see this fest doing very well. The music for the money doesn't weigh out period.
