About Colorado Symphony Orchestra
Originally established in 1989 as the successor to the Denver Symphony, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra thrives on a spirit of collaboration among musicians, staff, trustees and the community. The mission of the Colorado Symphony is to create extraordinary musical experiences that transport today’s listener from the best of the past, to the edge of the future. As the region’s only full-time professional orchestra, CSO embraces a tradition of musical excellence by presenting a diverse array of symphonic performances throughout the year.
By presenting music that is both timeless and inspiring while taking risks with new musical collaborations and interactive concerts, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra is committed to reaching global audiences with the use of state-of-the-art digital media via live streaming and concert downloads.
The CSO is a vibrant and vital part of the Denver community that always hosts innumerable events and activities for people of all ages. These programs involving education and outreach initiatives include education concerts and performances by kids in grades 3-12, as well as unique donor and sponsor opportunities and concert series for all types of listeners including: Masterworks, Pops, Holiday, Family, Inside the Score, and Symphony on the Rocks at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Whenever you want music, friends and delightful special events, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra delivers enjoyment throughout the year. The CSO 2013/14 season highlights features appearances by virtuoso violinists Itzhak Perlman and Joshua Bell, and classical pianists Natasha Paremski and Steven Hough. CSO performs more than 150 concerts during its regular season at Boettcher Concert Hall and other locations throughout the state and region.
The Denver Performing Arts Complex, a four-block 12-acre site which has 10,000 seats in ten performing areas, contains Boettcher Concert Hall, Colorado Symphony Orchestra’s place to perform. Built in 1978, this is the country’s first 360-degree concert hall, and is second largest in the country. It was constructed this way so that no audience member is more than 85 feet from the stage, with more than 80% of the audience being seated within 65 feet of the stage.
