Brandi Carlile Brings Out Katie Pruitt At Red Rocks Concert With Colorado Symphony

Brandi Carlile returned to Colorado for her annual early-September two-night run at Red Rocks outside Denver. Carlile took over the scenic outdoor venue last Friday and Saturday nights while backed by the Colorado Symphony orchestra and brought out opener Katie Pruitt during Saturday’s show in Morrison.

After going solo on Friday, Carlile’s Red Rocks concert Saturday saw her accompanied by her longtime collaborators The Hanseroth Twins – bassist Phil Hanseroth and guitarist Tim Hanseroth – as well as at various points by pianist Dave MacKay. Carlile’s wife, Catherine Shepherd Carlile, performed a series of duets with her partner on Friday night.

Pruitt, who opened Saturday’s concert, was brought back to the Red Rocks stage near the end of Carlile’s set on Saturday. The collaboration commenced with Pruitt helming a performance of her song “Blood Related,” which appeared on her well-received 2024 sophomore album, Mantras. Singer-songwriter Hadley Kennary, who is touring as a member of Pruitt’s band, was also part of the collab that continued with The Highwomen’s anthem “Crowded Table.”

Pruitt was later summoned to participate in the show-closing cover of Queen’s “We Are The Champions,” triumphantly bringing the weekend on the rocks to an end.
