Zach Bryan Posts Snippet Of Nostalgic New Song ‘Rockaway’ Following Breakup

Zach Bryan may have just released his latest album, The Great American Bar Scene, this past July, but he recently told Bruce Springsteen he already has 14 songs written for his next one. Late last night, Bryan shared a portion of a new song entitled “Rockaway” on Instagram.

The “Rockaway” teaser arrives at a particularly turbulent time for the Oklahoma native. Zach Bryan revealed just hours earlier on Instagram that he had broken up with Brianna LaPaglia, whom he been dating for over a year. “Addressing something: Brianna and me have broken up with each other and I respect and love her with every ounce of my heart,” Bryan wrote. “She has loved me unconditionally for a very long time and for that I’ll always thank her. I have had an incredibly hard year personally and struggled through some pretty severe things. I thought it would be beneficial for both of us to go our different ways.”

“I am not perfect and never will be. Please respect Brianna’s privacy and space in this and if you have it in your heart, mine too,” Bryan continued. “With everything I am and to anyone I let down, I am sorry. I try my best in everything. I failed people that love me and mostly myself.”

Brianna LaPaglia was apparently surprised by Bryan’s reveal. She took to social media just 30 minutes after Zach’s note to issue a statement of her own. “Hey guys I’m feeling really blindsided right now. Gonna hop off social media for a while and attempt to heal privately, when I’m ready I’ll be back and ready to talk,” explained the Barstool Sports star. “I love you guys so much thank you for all of your kind words. Remember you are so loved and everything’s always gonna be OK.”

LaPaglia then posted a YouTube video sharing more details. She noted she felt “discarded” by Zach Bryan. “How can you give every ounce of yourself to someone and then be discarded of in a few days?” Watch Brianna’s video message below:

While it’s unclear whether there’s a connection between the split and “Rockaway,” the song has a mournful feel of something lost. “Recall when we, went to Rockaway Beach, summer heat in eastern Queens, and a subway ride,” Bryan sings while banging out notes on piano.
