Watch Lenny Kravitz & Stevie Wonder Stretch Out On ‘Superstition’ In Paris

Stevie Wonder had a little help from Lenny Kravitz bringing his Paris concert to a close on Thursday. Kravitz shared vocals and played guitar throughout a “Superstition” finale that stretched well beyond 10 minutes at Accor Arena, then brought Wonder back onstage after he initially departed.

The concert marked the second stop of Wonder’s Songs In The Key Of Life Performances 50th Anniversary Tour, which began Tuesday in Birmingham, England. As on opening night, Wonder performed all 21 songs from his landmark 1976 double album and its accompanying bonus EP before reaching beyond the anniversary repertoire for “Superstition.”

“My friend, an incredible singer, friend, musician … you know, loves doing what we do. I wanted him to join us for this song,” Wonder said before Kravitz emerged. The guest handled a few verses of the Talking Book classic while adding guitar to the extended workout.

Wonder also used the finale to deliver a message of peace. “War and negativity aren’t the way,” he chanted repeatedly, bringing his array of backing vocalists into the refrain as the music continued.

Eventually, Wonder left the stage with Kravitz and members of his massive band still playing. “We love you, Stevie. God bless you all. Let love rule,” Kravitz exclaimed. Rather than letting the performance end there, Kravitz headed offstage, met Wonder and brought him back for a rousing finish.

French harmonica player Frédéric Yonnet also joined Wonder during the Paris show, appearing on “Have A Talk With God” in the first set and “Easy Goin’ Evening (My Mama’s Call)” in the second. Yonnet previously accompanied Wonder on his 2014–2015 Songs In The Key Of Life tour.
