You Could Be Featured In Scorsese Grateful Dead Documentary
By Scott Bernstein Oct 31, 2014 • 7:35 am PDT

The team behind the film, which includes producer Justin Kreutzmann and Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux, want Deadheads to be involved in putting the documentary together. As such, they are looking for photos and home videos showing Grateful Dead fans on tour as well as photos and home videos documenting the taping culture that developed around the band. Furthermore, they are looking for submissions of Grateful Dead performance footage or news clips about the group. If you have what they are looking for, they ask you send a note (but not the photos/videos yet) to gddocumentary@gmail.com. Full directions for submissions can be found below.
Here’s the full text of Sam Cutler’s post:
FOR ALL YOU DEADHEADS OUT THERE !!!
YOU could be featured in the upcoming GD documentary!
Hey now! As you may have recently heard, the Grateful Dead have partnered with executive producer Martin Scorsese and director Amir Bar-Lev to produce a career-spanning documentary film in advance of their 50th Anniversary in 2015. The producers have been working closely with the Dead, as well as Justin Kreutzmann and David Lemieux, to put together a project we expect you’ll be hearing much more about in the coming months.
Because so much of the Dead’s story involves YOU, the Dead Heads, we want you to be involved. We’re looking for submissions of:
Photos / home videos of you / your friends on tour with the Grateful Dead
Photos / home videos of Grateful Dead taping culture
Grateful Dead performance footage
News footage of the Grateful Dead
Important Notes:
Please do not send any photos or videos initially, please only send us a short note telling us what you have available including show date, and a general description (example: “6/10/73, RFK Stadium parking lot footage of my friends and me before the show, shot on Super 8 sound film”).
We must know what years the material was shot, what format it was shot in, and what format it is currently in. (i.e. super 8, mini DVD, etc.)
Please let us know if this footage is a dub, original, edited, or a camera original.
Please let us know if you are the sole rights holder for the material.
Please let us know if you’re capable of digitizing and uploading the material. If we use the material in the final film we will pay you a licensing fee and give you credit.
Send your photo and video/film listings to us at gddocumentary@gmail.com and we’ll be in touch if we’d like to see your photos or footage. Just to reiterate: Please do not send any attachments, the server will automatically reject anything but an email. Thank you
