The Wood Brothers and Shovels & Rope wrapped the first leg of a lengthy run of shows together that included a stop at The Anthem in Washington D.C. on Saturday night. The tourmates came together to perform a collaborative cover of a Creedence Clearwater Revival classic.

The Wood Brothers began their set with “Between The Beats” from the trio’s latest studio album, Heart Is The Hero. The setlist included five additional songs from the album that came out last month, “Line Those Pockets,” “Pilgrim,” “Worst Pain Of All,” “Far From Alone” and the title track.

“Postcards From Hell,” from 2008’s Loaded was dedicated by Oliver Wood to Shawn “Gus” Vitale, the 9:30 Club’s longtime sound engineer who died from cancer on May 11, at age 61.

The Wood Brothers began their encore on Saturday with their staple “The Muse.” Oliver Wood, Chris Wood and Jano Rix then welcomed Shovels & Rope back to The Anthem stage. The wife/husband duo of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent joined the trio for a lovely cover of “Down On The Corner” by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

The Wood Brothers and Shovels & Rope resume their tour on June 7. The Wood Brothers posted a short video clip of the backstage rehearsal of the CCR tune. The collaborative cover and the rest of the show were taped by Alex Leary and along with the rehearsal clip, can be found below:
