Wilco Switches It Up & Gets Fans Involved For Night Two Of Winterlude 2017 Run

Wilco continued a sold-out, four-show residency at the Chicago Theatre in their hometown of Chicago on Thursday night. The band’s 27-song performance included 13 tunes they hadn’t played during the opening show one night prior and ended with a wild “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” featuring fan participation.

Jeff Tweedy & Co. played 22 of the evening’s 27 tunes from just four studio albums as Wilco performed six songs a piece from 2004’s A Ghost Is Born and last year’s Schmilco as well as five songs a piece from 2001’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and 1996’s Being There. Guitarists Jeff Tweedy and Nels Cline started Thursday’s show with a duo performance of “Normal American Kids.” The Schilmco tune was followed by full band renditions of two more songs from the band’s most recent LP: “If I Ever Was A Child” and “Cry All Day.”

The rock-heavy show continued on with somewhat rare takes on “Radio Cure” and “Company In My Back” ahead of “The Joke Explained” and an acoustic version of “Misunderstood.” Wilco’s main set was heavy on fan-favorites including “Reservations,” “Impossible Germany,” “Forget The Flowers,” “Jesus, Etc.” and “I’m The Man Who Loves You” and ended with a pairing of “Hummingbird” and “The Late Greats.”

For the first encore, the six-piece worked through “War On War,” “Pickled Ginger,” “Red-Eyed & Blue,” “I Got You (At The End Of The Century)” and “Outtasite (Outta Mind).” Wilco wasn’t done yet as they returned to end the evening with “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” as the second encore. Tweedy led the crowd in singing the song’s main guitar theme and the capacity audience quickly picked up what Jeff was laying down as can be witnessed in the video below.
