Wilco Shares The Beatles Covers ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ & ‘Dig A Pony’

Wilco recorded a pair of The Beatles covers released today as Amazon Music exclusives. Jeff Tweedy and company took on “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Dig A Pony” as part of Amazon Music’s [RE]DISCOVER campaign heralding the recent The Beatles' Let It Be reissues.

The Beatles originally issued “Don’t Let Me Down” as a single in April of 1969 while “Dig A Pony” first appeared on the Fab Four’s Let It Be album the following year. Both Lennon/McCartney gems were recorded during the January 1969 sessions documented in Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s 1970 film Let It Be. Director Peter Jackson sorted through over 60 hours of footage from the period for his forthcoming The Beatles: Get Back docuseries.

Wilco laid down the covers at their The Loft facility in Chicago. “What a delight to convene in The Loft and assay two songs by that cool underground band The Beatles! I envy us!” quipped Wilco guitarist Nels Cline in a statement. While the band stayed true to “Dig A Pony,” they delivered a country-tinged rendition of “Don’t Let Me Down.”
