Widespread Panic continues to roll out video from their 2023 Red Rocks run. The latest features “Rebirtha,” which arrived as the penultimate song of the second set on Friday, June 23.

Widespread Panic unveiled what would become “Rebirtha” on January 23, 1993, as per Everyday Companion. EC also notes that the song was “[d]ebuted as an instrumental (‘Apologies To George Porter’) and lyrics added (10/2/94). The October 2, 1994 show took place in Lexington, Kentucky.

“Rebirtha” later appeared on Widespread Panic’s 1997 studio album, Bombs & Butterflies. The title is lifted from lyrics in the song, although they are sung by frontman John Bell in reverse order from the album title.

The particularly funky Red Rocks 2023 version marked the 415th play of the tune and began as always with Dave Schools’ percolating bassline. “Rebirtha” came during a lengthy set-ending sequence preceded by “Travelin’ Man,” “The Waker,” and “Second Skin” with “Blackout Blues” sealing the set.
