Widespread Panic Performs In Cave 333 Feet Underground

Georgia rockers Widespread Panic played a venue unlike any they’ve performed at over the years last night as the band’s Wood Tour came to the magnificent Volcano Room of Cumberland Caverns near McMinnville, TN. The show, which took place 333-feet underground, was taped for PBS’s Bluegrass Underground series. The performance will air nationally on PBS this fall.

John Bell and Co. laid down one lengthy 70+ minute set in the cave-like setting, located far underground, that mixed material from throughout their illustrious career. The band focused on songs that thrive in the all-acoustic setting such as their unplugged arrangement of “Tall Boy,” a “Driving Song” with “Little Lily” in the middle and “May Your Glass Be Filled” off 2006’s Earth To America. Panic returned for a three-song encore of “This Part Of Town,” “Pilgrims” and “Blue Indian” following the evening’s lone set.
