After debuting new original “Little By Little” on Saturday, Widespread Panic wrapped a three-night run at The Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville, Alabama yesterday with a show that saw another new tune coming into the live repertoire. WSP delivered the premiere performance of the new original, “We Walk Each Other Home,” during the second set of the Sunday show.
The Orion concert got underway with a classic “Driving Song” > “Disco” > “Driving” sequence and the band kept it continuous with Tom Waits’ “Goin Out West,” “Christmas Katie” and on into “Radio Child.” A standalone “Thought Sausage” then prefaced a pairing of “Pleas” and “Jack.” Panic capped off the first frame with “Halloween Face.”

The second set launched with the beloved “Airplane” followed by “Wondering.” WSP then offered up the debut of “We Walk Each Other Home.” Frontman John Bell led the band through the ballad full of organ swells from keyboardist John Hermann. Guitarist Jimmy Herring added well-placed riffage as percussionist Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz and drummer Duane Trucks locked in on a kicked back beat glued together with a rolling bassline from Dave Schools.

Panic followed the premiere with the favorite “Surprise Valley” in which they threw in “Rock” and “Drums” before returning to “Surprise Valley” and heading into the recently unveiled cover of The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence.” “Postcard,” “Blackout Blues” and “Action Man” sealed the second set. WSP returned to the stage to kick off the encore with “End Of The Show,” which saw JB on mandolin. He would keep the eight-string on for “Ain’t Life Grand” to close out the night and the three-show run.
