Tom Brosseau : Grass Punks

This winter weather just screams for some good folk music, so let’s kick off this week’s picks with the fantastic new album from Tom Brosseau. A native of Grand Forks, ND, Brosseau offers up some toe-warming acoustic guitar and vocals on Grass Punks. Nothing fancy, but it doesn’t have to be when it’s this good. Cozy up with some beautiful music!

Julie Byrne : Rooms With Walls and Windows

Which is colder, Grand Forks or Buffalo, NY? That’s where Julie Byrne was born and raised, although she’s in Seattle now, and her new album Rooms With Walls and Windows are a joy on par with a simple cup of cocoa after coming in from a blizzard…OK, maybe with a few marshmallows sprinkled in there. Byrne’s voice and guitar seem to be two separate entities, creating gorgeous, stark melodies. The album is really two self-released cassettes remastered and re-released, but feels plenty fresh and warm.
