A rainy 2016 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival second weekend came to a close with the final slate of performances taking place on Sunday. The last day of Jazz Fest featured appearances by locals including acclaimed vocalist Aaron Neville and The Meters’ Zigaboo Modeliste’s Funk Revue as well as Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk with Art Neville and Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, among several others.

Bonnie Raitt, Dr. John, Aaron Neville, Cyril Neville and Jon Batiste were among an all-star cast that paid tribute to late NOLA legend Allen Toussaint, which also featured the pianist and composer’s backing band playing many of his best-known songs. This year was the first Jazz Fest not to feature an appearance by Toussaint who passed away last November. There was also a tribute set performed in honor of late great blues guitarist B.B. King featuring B.B.King’s Blues Band along with Raitt, Dr. John, Buddy Guy, Irma Thomas, Elvin Bishop and many more.

Raitt and her band also performed a set, as did folk veteran Arlo Guthrie who was celebrating the 50th anniversary of his album Alice’s Restaurant. Substantial rain during Neil Young and Promise Of The Real’s set didn’t deter the ensemble who mixed songs from Young’s well-known catalog with cuts from the collaborative album they released last year.
