Umphrey’s McGee Teams With Members Of TAUK In Raleigh

Last night, Umphrey’s McGee continued their tour with the second of two shows at The Ritz in Raleigh, North Carolina. Umphrey’s once again enlisted the help of members of TAUK for their second set closing rendition of a classic cover song.

UM opened Saturday’s show with their instrumental original “Robot World.” Guitarist Brendan Bayliss then led them through “No Diablo,” which gave way to “The Linear” followed by “Mulche’s Odyssey.” The instrumental original “Kabump” came next, with “Wife Soup” trailing upon its conclusion. The set closed with the first performance of 2016, and just the fourth UM rendition ever of “Stinko’s Ascension,” which made its debut at last year’s UMBowl VI in Las Vegas.

Set two began with “Plunger,” that seamlessly segued after some improvisation into the instrumental original “Glory.” “Out Of Order” was then paired with another original instrumental, “#5.” Guitarist Jake Cinninger shifted to join Joel Cummins on keys during a take on the band’s classic “All In Time” that saw “Comma Later” played within. TAUK guitarist Matt Jalbert and keyboardist Alric “A.C.” Carter emerged to sit-in on the set closing cover of The Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy),” playing a similar role their mate Isaac Teel filled by sitting-in on Pink Floyd’s “Breathe” on Friday. UM’s longtime setlist staple “Slacker” provided the evening’s encore.

Umphrey’s McGee and TAUK will pair up again for a show at The Joy Theater in New Orleans on Thursday, April 14. Here’s an audience-captured clip of “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” from last night via bmillz_on_da_track:
