Isaac Teel Of TAUK Guests With Umphrey’s McGee In Raleigh

On Friday night, Umphrey’s McGee brought their cross-country tour with TAUK to The Ritz for the first of two consecutive performances at the Raleigh, North Carolina venue. Umphrey’s second set concluded with a Pink Floyd cover featuring help from a member of TAUK.
Following an opening set from TAUK that included a cover of the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby,” Umphrey’s McGee kicked off their first set with “Sociable Jimmy.” The “Sociable Jimmy” opener marked the third night in a row UM has began with a song featuring lyrics instead of one of the instrumental segments that kicked off most other shows this year. “1348” came next and wouldn’t be concluded until the end of the first set. In between segments of “1348” was a diverse group of tunes that ranged from rarity “Alex’s House” to instrumental “The Fussy Dutchman” to classic jam song “Dump City” and “Attachments,” one of the newest originals in the band’s repertoire.
Umphrey’s McGee opened the second set with one of their earliest songs, “Divisions.” Next up was the improvisational highlight of the evening, a near 15 minute “The Triple Wide” with multiple distinctive jam segments. “Walletsworth” emerged out of “The Triple Wide” and led into a “Hurt Bird Bath” > “Upward” > “Hurt Bird Bath” sequence. When UM returned to “Hurt Bird Bath” they did so at a quicker pace than usual which made for an interesting bluegrass-tinged ending. Guitarist Brendan Bayliss then welcomed TAUK’s Isaac Teel to join in on percussion for a dub style cover of Pink Floyd’s “Breathe.” Keyboardist Joel Cummins added a portion of “Great Gig In The Sky” at the end of “Breathe,” while guitarist Jake Cinninger and drummer Kris Myers had fun with the distinctive “Great Gig” vocals:
