Umphrey’s McGee Breaks Out Radiohead & Pearl Jam Covers In St. Petersburg
“Meeting In The Aisles” and “Release” had both last been played in November 2021.
Umphrey’s McGee rolled into St. Petersburg, Florida for a concert at Jannus Live on Thursday night. Each of the night’s two sets featured rarely-played covers as the band pulled out Radiohead and Pearl Jam songs last performed by UM in 2021.
Both of the bust-out covers were played within UM originals. In the first set, “Ringo” segued into Radiohead’s “Meeting In The Aisles” – making its 20th setlist appearance and first since November 19, 2021 – which then segued back into “Ringo.” In the second set, the band’s longstanding original “Der Bluten Kat” surrounded their cover of Pearl Jam’s “Release,” which was making just its 17th setlist appearance and first since November 18, 2021.
Thursday’s first set was jump-started by “Le Blitz” going into “All In Time,” which would be left to finish at the end of the set. “Always October” and “Hiccup” from the band’s latest studio album, Asking For A Friend were interwoven with “Mad Love” and “Kabump,” with the aforementioned “Ringo” and “Meeting In The Aisle” pairing filling out the opening half.
“Escape Goat,” another Asking track, opened the second set and segued into a day-early presentation of “Bad Friday.” The recently released single “Staircase” was played live for the third time, ahead of the “DBK”/“Release” segment and the dance-driven instrumental “The Triple Wide” serving as the set closer.
Uplifting instrumental “Glory” initiated the encore with “Partyin’ Peeps” putting a festive cap on the concert. Watch pro-shot video of the first set opener from last night’s livestream and stream official audio via nugs.net below:
