Umphrey’s McGee wrapped a two-night run at First Avenue on Saturday with the second of two shows at the storied Minneapolis venue. The performance was capped with a bust out of “No More Tears,” marking the Ozzy Osbourne cover’s first appearance in a UM setlist since 2014.

Saturday’s version of “No More Tears” (listed on the band’s printed setlists as “No More Tours”) was the 20th time the band played the Ozzy classic. UM had gone 652 shows since its last appearance on November 6, 2014. Saturday’s bust out came at the start of the encore, after guitarist Brendan Bayliss addressed the crowd.

“We thought that you deserved something special, again,” Bayliss told the First Ave audience. “And we’re going to honor Ozzy Osbourne because he’s retiring [but] his music is going to happen right now.”

The unexpected cover was followed by a high-powered “The Triple Wide” that brought an end to the encore and show.

Earlier in the evening, UM started the first set with guitarist Jake Cinninger steering “Domino Theory.” A quick run through “Hiccup” came next, followed by the instrumental “Blue Echo” that came loaded with a “Techno Echo” segment. “Wide Open,” an original that debuted last November at UMBowl IX, then made its second setlist appearance. A lively “Little Gift” set up the first set closer, the longtime staple “2×2” that saw Bayliss incorporate elements of Chuck Mangione’s “Feels So Good” during the 20-minute presentation.

The five-song second set was anchored by a mid-set 21-minute unleashing of “Draconian.” The latter half of the show kicked off with “I Don’t Know What I Want” from their 2022 studio album, Asking For A Friend, which was paired with well-established “Out Of Order.” After the aforementioned jammed-out “Draconian,” the improvisation continued flowing through subsequent takes on “Plunger” and “Push The Pig.”
