Umphrey’s McGee Debuts AC/DC Cover, Welcomes Kanika Moore & Other Guests At Northlands

Umphrey’s McGee headlined the Northlands Festival on Sunday. UM welcomed a trio of guests during their two-set performance — Holly Bowling, Rory Dolan and Kanika Moore — the latter featuring on UM’s debut of AC/DC‘s “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll).” .

Umphrey’s McGee — guitarists Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger, bassist Ryan Stasik, keyboardist Joel Cummins, percussionist Andy Farag and newly minted drummer Scotty Zwang — kicked off the concert with “The Silent Type.”

The band then paired up “Puppet String” with an expansive “JaJunk.” Holly Bowling emerged to join Cummins in key world for the 16-minute excursion on “JaJunk,” which saw the band playing around with the Top Gun theme.

Following “Mail Package,” lespecial drummer Rory Dolan gave Zwang an early breather, hopping on the kit for “Believe the Lie,” with the group adding elements of Miles Davis’ “In A Silent Way” into the first-set closer.

Set two launched with the classic “Wappy Sprayberry,” followed by a nearly 20-minute exploration of staple “Hurt Bird Bath.” Stand-alone renditions of “Higgins,” “Den” and “Ringo” followed. Stasik’s Doom Flamingo bandmate, vocalist Kanika Moore, then came out for the UM premiere of AC/DC’s “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll).”

Moore was busy at Northlands over the weekend, sitting in with The String Cheese Incident, moe. and The Terrapin Family Band. An explosive singer with an electrifying stage presence, Moore was a perfect guest to help UM unveil the AC/DC track off the legendary rockers’ 1975 album T.N.T.
