Warren Haynes presented his all-star Christmas Jam concert for the first time since 2018 at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in his hometown of Asheville, North Carolina on Saturday night. Singer-songwriter Tyler Childers made his Xmas Jam debut and brought out Haynes to join his band The Food Stamps on a cover of Charlie Daniels’ “Trudy.”
Childers released his latest studio album, Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven?, earlier this year featuring three different versions of the same set of eight songs. Two tracks off the album were part of Childers’ setlist on Saturday, “Heart You’ve Been Tendin’” and “Way of the Triune God.” The set also included the recently debuted unreleased original “Rustin’ In the Rain.”
Along with “Trudy,” Childers and The Food Stamps’ Xmas Jam set also saw them work up covers of Charley Crockett’s “Tom Turkey” and Kenny Rogers & The First Edition’s “Tulsa Turnaround.” Frequently covered by Childers and his band, “Trudy” appeared on Charlie Daniels’ 1971 self-titled debut album.
