Twenty Years Later: Beck Makes His Network Television Debut On ‘Letterman’

On this date in 1996 Beck made what host David Letterman referred to as his network television debut on CBS’s Late Show With David Letterman. Beck performed “Where It’s At” off Odelay, his second studio album which hit stores a few months earlier.
Surprisingly, Beck never made any television appearances in support of his debut album Mellow Gold in 1994. Odelay featured a bevy of hits in addition to “Where It’s At” including “The New Pollution,” “Devil’s Haircut” and “Jack-Ass.” Beck’s visit to Letterman saw him sit on the couch, where he explain the title of the LP, talked about his Southern California roots and discuss the success of “Loser.”
