Trey Anastasio & Seattle Symphony Lead Wilson Chant

Last night Phish front man Trey Anastasio returned to Seattle, the home of the NFL Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, for an orchestral performance with the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall. As you may recall, Trey lobbied fans at a solo performance in April of 2013 to chant “Wilson” for Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson as they do when Phish plays the song of the same name. The chant caught on in a big way as Wilson led the Hawks to the championship. When Anastasio came out for last night’s encore, he had the symphony perform the few bars that serve as the “Wilson” intro and fans responded with the chant.
Trey took to the mic at the start of the encore and said, “we’ll let you guys sing one” and the orchestra played the few bars of “Wilson.” Anastasio responded to the crowd’s chant with “you guys are incredible!” He then referenced his April ’13 appearance and joked, “some of you may have heard me mutter underneath my breath that I guarantee a Super Bowl!” The guitarist then went on to complete the show with takes on “Water In The Sky” and “Brian & Robert.” Watch how the “Wilson” segment went down via fan-shot video by Steven Glass:
Outside of the “Wilson” chant, Anastasio and the orchestra stuck to the same batch of songs Trey played with the Oregon Symphony on Monday including another rendition of “Petrichor” and Phish staples “You Enjoy Myself,” “Stash,” “Divided Sky” and “First Tube.”
