Trey Anastasio Mixes It Up In DC | To Play Tiny Desk Concert

Last night, Phish front man Trey Anastasio brought the Trey Anastasio Band to the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. to begin a two-night stand at the legendary venue. Anastasio dug deep into his solo repertoire for a whopping eight tour debuts including the return of yet another 70 Volt Parade-era original.

“Curlew’s Call,” “Tube Top Flop,” “Words To Wanda,” “Sweet Dreams Melinda,” “O-o-h Child,” “Black,” “Flock Of Words” and “Small Axe” each were performed for the first time last night on the now week-old tour. 70 Volt Parade debuted “Black” on April 29, 2005 and played the song five more times that spring. TAB dusted off “Black” just once between 2005 and last night’s performance (2/19/11).

While TAB returns to the 9:30 Club tonight, Anastasio had another performance in store today. Trey was the latest artist to participate in NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts. From the looks of the photo above, Anastasio left TAB behind for the intimate set. @JEpstein89 has reported Trey played “Sleep Again,” “Summer of ’89” and “Backwards Down The Number Line” at NPR Music’s Washington, DC offices. No word yet on when NPR will premiere Trey’s Tiny Desk Concert.
