Trey Anastasio Band Welcomes Del McCoury & Sons At DelFest

Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio had a chance to perform with one of his heroes last night at DelFest. The Trey Anastasio Band was joined by Del McCoury as well as Ronnie McCoury and Rob McCoury as part of their two sets at DelFest 10 in Cumberland, Maryland.
Trey brought out Del and explained how excited he was to share the stage with McCoury. Ronnie came out on mandolin, while Rob added banjo to the pair of songs featuring their father. Del started out by telling the story of his appearance at Phish’s Camp Oswego festival in 1999. The McCourys and TAB minus the horn section then proceeded to play Bill Monroe’s “I’m Blue, I’m Lonesome.” Phish covered “I’m Blue, I’m Lonesome” a number of times between 1994 and 2000. Trey played the song with the Del McCoury Band at a 2010 TAB show in Nashville and the Trey Anastasio Band performed “I’m Blue, I’m Lonesome” at DelFest in 2013 with the McCourys and Jason Carter.
Del and his sons stuck around to add to McCoury’s “Beauty Of My Dreams,” a song Phish covered regularly between 1997 and 2000 and has played sporadically since. “Beauty Of My Dreams” was another tune performed by Trey and the McCourys at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on February 25, 2010 and again at DelFest on May 24, 2013. While Natalie Cressman and James Casey sat out both songs, Jennifer Hartswick added backing vocals to “Beauty Of My Dreams.”
