Trey Anastasio Band Offers Debuts & 4-Song Encore In Charlotte

The Trey Anastasio Band returned to the road on Thursday night at The Fillmore in Charlotte, North Carolina. Anastasio led his ensemble through a pair of lengthy sets and a whopping four-song encore. The concert included a pair of debuts, one of which was a song Phish has played in the past and the other was completely new.

TAB kicked off the 4/20 show with “Gotta Jibboo” and then performed the Paper Wheels track “Sometime After Sunset.” A take on the Page McConnell-penned “Magilla” came next followed by old favorites “Curlew’s Call” and “Cayman Review.” From there, Anastasio led the troupe through a rocking debut of a song featuring the chorus of “We’ve got to rise up, come together, come together, come together.” The guitarist noted he was struggling with a song title since “Come Together” is already taken. As for now, it appears Trey is going with “Come Together” regardless.

From there, Natalie Cressman stepped into the spotlight to front TAB on a cover of “Feel It Still” by Portugal. The Man. The rest of the set was heavy on staples including “Night Speaks To A Woman,” “Burlap Sack & Pumps” and “Sand.” Anastasio picked “Corona” to open the second set as the Traveler track was played for the first time since 2014. Last night’s closing stanza also featured the TAB debut of “Tide Turns,” a tune Phish recorded for their most recent studio album as part of a mix of covers and originals.

After ending the set with the tour’s second rendition of the traditional Irish song “The Parting Glass,” TAB came back to the stage to begin what would turn out to be a four-song encore. “Show Of Life” was up first followed by the tour debut of “Sweet Dreams Melinda.” The Trey Anastasio Band said farewell with “Everything’s Right,” an original first performed at The Capitol Theatre last weekend, and a blistering “Push On ‘Til The Day.” Anastasio’s group headlines the first day of this year’s SweetWater 420 Fest in Atlanta on Friday. A webcast is available through UphoricTV.
