Collaborative music project Toyesauce led by Leon Toye enlisted Dave Matthews Band saxophonist Jeff Coffin, renowned New Orleans-based drummer Terence Higgins and rock violinist Joseph Shackelford to contribute to the band’s third single, “I’ll Give It A Try.” JamBase is pleased to premiere the track ahead of its official release tomorrow (Friday, May 13).

Leon Toye began work on “I’ll Give It A Try” in Nashville at his home studio with saxophonist Troy Atkins. The rest of the track was recorded almost entirely remotely, giving Toye the chance to bring the song to fruition with his dream choice of collaborators. The instrumental song features Toye’s acoustic guitar underneath dueling lines from Coffin and Shackelford while Higgins bangs out a hard-hitting beat. “I’ll Give It A Try” turned into a more jam-focused effort than previously released funk-heavy singles “Chicken” and “Good As It Gets Anymore.”

“’I’ll Give It A Try’ was written long ago, inspired by the spirit of Dave Matthews Band,” Toye told JamBase. “At the time I wrote it, I never imagined someone from DMB would one day play on it, which makes the title all the more fitting. A nice reminder that interesting things can in fact happen if we are not afraid to try.” The song unites the best of the Nashville and New Orleans music worlds into a one dynamic cut filled with twists and turns.
