Tool Drummer Danny Carey Plays Show With Staph Infection

On Saturday, progressive rock band Tool was among the acts on the lineup of the 2016 Aftershock festival at Discovery Park in Sacramento. According to guitarist Adam Jones, Tool drummer Danny Carey performed the show against the suggestion of doctors after suffering from an originally misdiagnosed severe Staph infection in his leg.
Following their set that opened with “Third Eye” and included such longtime favorites as “Parabola,” “Opiate” “Ænema,” “Forty-Six & 2” and their set closing “Stinkfist,” Jones posted to Instagram detailing Carey’s serious medical condition. Here’s what Jones had to say about his band mate:
Great crowd at #AfterShock festival. Thank you Sacramento‼️ I truly have to respect Mr #DannyCarey who played the entire show with a very serious Staph Infection. At first on Friday morning he was misdiagnosed with a poisonous spider bite on his upper leg. Then later Friday night the quarter sized wound was cut opened & drained. By Saturday DC was still aching from head to toe & from what I heard the Local Doctor recommended we skip the show. But Dan with headaches & painful joints played anyway…
