“The electric guitars flash like lightning, the looping melodies and Tamashek raps hypnotize.” – Rolling Stone
The Tuareg rebel rockers Tinariwen will be kicking off a series of U.S. dates at Bonnaroo on June 13. They will also be making stops in Minneapolis, Chicago, Hollywood, San Francisco, Portland (OR), Denver, Boulder, Brooklyn and NYC.
Formed in the Southern Sahara, Tinariwen transform the hypnotic music of their homeland into a gritty new breed of electric blues and made die-hard fans of music heavies from Robert Plant to Bono. Their latest album, Imidiwan, was named album of the year by Uncut Magazine, and Pitchfork wrote, “There is a unique magic to the sounds of the Sahara. Imidiwan captures that magic with skillful grace.”
