“[The new record] has a defined voice – one that still leaves room for growth, but points to who we are becoming.” – bassist Jimmy Finnegan

Squeaky Feet announced a new album, Overview Effect, set for release on October 10. The Colorado-based psych-prog purveyors previewed the record with the single, “Irish Goodbye.”
Overview Effect follows Squeaky Feet’s 2023 debut album, Cause For Alarm. The new LP sees the band — guitarists Colin Shore and Greg King, bassist Jimmy Finnegan, keyboardist Brian Keller and drummer Kevin D’Angelo — taking a “muscular leap into progressive territory,” as per press materials.

Progressive rock, as the name suggests, has the beautiful ability to bring together seemingly disparate elements of modern music to create something new, and importantly, cohesive. All those ingredients can’t just be thrown together. It takes skill.
A skill which Squeaky Feet, as disciples of bands like King Crimson and Porcupine Tree, possess and employ on their new single “Irish Goodbye.” Not quite as pummeling as their previous Overview Effect single, “The Detective” “Irish Goodbye” opens with a shimmering, almost folk-like intro, over which Finnegan drapes rich bass textures.
The song gets heavier with a tom-laden beat from D’Angelo and a crunchy guitar riff, which Keller interlaces with well-placed, warbling electric piano stabs. There’s also some signature Squeak freakout instrumental breaks and a soaring solo sequence.
Guitarist and vocalist Colin Shore further detailed Overview Effect and “Irish Goodbye.”
“This album is about facing and overcoming adversity, and pushing through problems,” he said. “We wanted it to hit hard – emotionally and musically. ‘Irish Goodbye’ encapsulates that vision. A musical gut punch.”

Squeaky Feet will celebrate the release of Overview Effect with a show at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver on October 10. More imminently, the band will perform at Secret Dreams tomorrow (July 18) ahead of festival plays at Gambler’s Run, Rhythms On The Rio and Beanstalk.
