The Who Reschedules Upcoming Concerts

Last month frontman Roger Daltrey’s swollen vocal chords forced The Who to postpone three concerts on their The Who Hits 50! tour to give the 71-year-old’s pipes a rest. Now the band also featuring original member guitarist Pete Townshend has been forced to reschedule two more upcoming gigs.

Two dates on The Who Hits 50! fall leg have been moved in order to provide more rest for Daltrey’s vocal chords between shows. The Who’s September 23 show at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California and their October 21 show at Air Canada Center in Toronto have been moved to December. The Oakland gig will now be held on December 13 while the Toronto concert is now slated for December 2.

December will also see The Who making up the three shows they canceled in May in Louisville, St. Louis and Kansas City. They will play KFC Yum! Center in Louisville on December 4, Scottrade Center in St. Louis on December 6 and Sprint Center in Kansas City December 8. Tickets purchased prior to the rescheduling will be accepted at the newly planned dates.

UPDATE: The Who shared a note from Pete Townshend on the band’s website:

Thanks to everyone for coming to see us on the first leg of the US tour. The three lost shows will be replaced in December, I just hope it isn’t snowing in Kansas City then. Stranger things are happening with the weather.

I had a good tour I think. The setlist doesn’t allow for a lot of musical extension, but I found a few places to let rip, and in the end I just decided to jump around. It seems to have the same effect as a good solo.

The audiences have been amazing, warm and forgiving. Roger has battled sometimes, not so much with his voice as with a muscle problem that may well go back to a car crash in Australia many years ago. Towards the end he got better and better. And happier. Good to see.

The band were great. Just amazing. Tireless.

Now we are back in the UK. I can’t speak for anyone else but I have the most spectacular jet-lag (I have been away for over 9 weeks), but by the time we do the European and UK shows I’ll be back in black.
