The Who began their The Song Is Over: The North American Farewell Tour with a concert Saturday at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida. Opening night saw the setlist altered to include the band’s first public performance of “Going Mobile.”

Surviving The Who co-founders, frontman Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend, are joined on the tour by a lineup consisting of new drummer Scott Devours, keyboardist Loren Gold, percussionist/backing vocalist John Hogg, bassist Jon Button, percussionist Jody Linscott and Pete Townshend’s brother, multi-instrumentalist Simon Townshend.

The show began in a similar fashion to the two concerts The Who performed last month in Italy, starting with an “I Can’t Explain” opener, followed by “Substitute” and “Who Are You.” More favorites unfolded with “The Seeker,” “Bargain,” “Love Ain’t For Keepin’” and “Behind Blue Eyes.”

Pete Townshend then explained Simon Townshend was going to sing the next song because Pete could no longer hit the high notes needed. The Who’s first known performance of “Going Mobile,” from their 1971 album, Who’s Next, was then sung by Simon. The song was one of two tracks on Who’s Next recorded without Daltrey.

After the debut, the set filled in with more of the band’s best-known material like “Pinball Wizard,” “See Me, Feel Me,” “My Generation,” “Baba O’Riley,” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” as well as a string of songs from 1973’s Quadrophenia, “The Real Me,” “I’ve Had Enough,” “I’m One,” “5:15” and “Love, Reign O’er Me.”

“The Song Is Over” fittingly brought the first show of The Who’s The Song Is Over: The North American Farewell Tour to a close. The 16-date run continues tomorrow, Tuesday, August 19 in Newark, New Jersey.
