Apparently things have changed for The Who since Pete Townshend proclaimed “I’m not doing a farewell tour” in an April 2024 interview with the New York Times. Today, the legendary band laid out plans for their North American farewell tour titled “The Song Is Over,” spanning 16 concerts across major venues throughout August and September 2025.
“Well, all good things must come to an end. It is a poignant time. For me, playing to American audiences and those in Canada has always been incredible. The warmth and engagement of those audiences began back in 1967 with hippies smoking dope, sitting on their blankets and listening deeply and intensely. Music was everywhere. We all felt equal,” Townshend said in a statement.
“Today, Roger and I still carry the banner for the late Keith Moon and John Entwistle and of course, all of our longtime Who fans. I must say that although the road has not always been enjoyable for me, it is usually easy: the best job I could ever have had. I keep coming back. Every time I do, I meet new fans and feel new energy,” the guitarist added. “Roger and I are in a good place, despite our age, eager to throw our weight behind this fond farewell to all our faithful fans, and hopefully to new ones who might jump in to see what they have been missing for the last 57 years. This tour will be about fond memories, love and laughter.”

The trek starts on August 16 in Sunrise (Florida) at Amerant Bank Arena. The band then heads to Newark (New Jersey) on August 19, Philadelphia on August 21 and Atlantic City (New Jersey) on August 23. On August 26, The Who will perform at Boston’s iconic Fenway Park before playing Wantagh (New York) on August 28 and New York City on August 30 at Madison Square Garden.
In early September, the group crosses the border for two consecutive shows in Toronto on September 2 and 4 at Budweiser Stage. The tour continues with a performance in Chicago on September 7 at United Center. After a short break, The Who will resume on the West Coast with two shows at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on September 17 and 19, followed by a concert in Mountain View (California) on September 21.
The final stretch of the tour includes performances in Vancouver on September 23, Seattle on September 25, and concludes with a finale in Las Vegas on September 28 at MGM Grand Garden Arena. The Who famously embarked on their first farewell tour in 1982.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, May 16 at 10 a.m. local time after a series of presales. Find links to purchase and additional The Who tour information below.
