The Grateful Dead Shares Tracks From ‘The Warfield, San Francisco, CA 10/09/80 & 10/10/80’


The Grateful Dead will issue The Warfield, San Francisco, CA 10/09/80 & 10/10/80 on both CD and vinyl for this year’s Record Store Day, which takes place tomorrow (Saturday, April 13). Audio of “Cassidy” and “Bird Song” from the release has been shared by the Dead and Rhino Records as a preview.

As the name implies, The Warfield, San Francisco, CA 10/09/80 & 10/10/80 was recorded live at The Warfield on October 9 and 10, 1980 during the Dead’s run of 15 shows at the venue in celebration of their 15th anniversary. Each night included one acoustic set followed by two electric sets. The lineup at the time featured guitarists Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir, keyboardist Brent Mydland, bassist Phil Lesh and drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann. The Warfield, San Francisco, CA 10/09/80 & 10/10/80 contains the complete acoustic performances from both nights. A limited run of 10,000 2-LP sets and 6,000 CDs will be available tomorrow at independent record stores nationwide.
