The Disco Biscuits Revive ‘Resurrection’ In Fort Lauderdale
The Disco Biscuits closed out their two-night run at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night along with their larger four-night Florida run. Keyboardist Aron Magner would lead drummer Allen Aucoin, bassist Marc Brownstein and guitarist Jon Gutwillig on his “Resurrection” for the first time in 2019 to open up the show.
The swaggering song, penned by Magner in 2003, was last played on December 29, 2019 during the Biscuits’ New Year’s run at The Fillmore in their native Philadelphia. From “Resurrection,” the band would segue into new tune “4th Of July,” which saw its debut last month at Higher Ground in Burlington, Vermont. “4th Of July” would in turn lead into the classic “I-Man” form the band’s 1998 album Uncivilized Area. The Biscuits closed out the set with another early favorite, “Little Shimmy In A Conga Line.”
The Disco Biscuits kicked off the second set with “We Like To Party” from their last studio album, 2011’s Otherwise Law Abiding Citizens. The tune led into an inverted version of the vintage “Above The Waves.” The Biscuits then got into some jams before returning to their nod to Norwegian DJ Todd Terje with elements of his “Delorean Dynamite” and “Strandbar,” according to Phantasy Tour, a combo the band also played during night two of their fall tour opener in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. Two new songs would emerge from the jam in “Anthem,” debuted the first night of McKees Rocks, and “Clocks.” The latter saw its debut at The National in Richmond, Virginia after being reworked from a song unveiled earlier this year fittingly called “That Sample Has A Name.” The Biscuits returned to Uncivilized Area material in “Morph Dusseldorf” to close out the second set.
The jamtronica pioneers would deliver a massive “And The Ladies Were The Rest Of The Night” sandwich with another new song “The Stars In The Sky” (for just the second time) in the middle. Check out pro-shot video of the entire show below:
