The Disco Biscuits Debut New Songs At Tour Opener In McKees Rocks

The Disco Biscuits kicked off their first extensive tour in years on Thursday night at the Roxian Theatre in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. The livetronica pioneers mixed classics with four brand new originals at the Pittsburgh area venue.

Guitarist Jon Gutwillig, bassist Marc Brownstein, keyboardist Aron Magner and drummer Allen Aucoin began the evening and tour with a well-jammed “Little Betty Boop” that included Gutwillig’s “Pimp Blue Rikki” and the debut of “Hero” within. The segment spanned 40 minutes and included both dark and pretty improv. Last night’s first set also included a segment that featured an inverted take on “Miracles” and the first ever “Rocket Science” bookended by oldie “Bernstein & Chasnoff.”

The Disco Biscuits came out of the gates for the closing frame with just their second “Spaga” of 2019. Up next in the 75-minute set was the premiere of “Stars In The Sky,” the lone debut of the evening that didn’t come within another song. Jon “Barber” Gutwillig sang lead on “Stars In The Sky,” which at a mere nine minutes was among the shortest tunes of the evening. The four-piece ended the tour opener with an exploratory “Spraypaint Victory” into “Anthem” into “Spraypaint Victory” segment. “Anthem” was the fourth and final new song unveiled by tDB in McKees Rocks. “Spraypaint” hit a peak just before the spacey intro to the new original, part of which was performed during the band’s recent Tractorbeam shows in Frisco, Colorado. The Biscuits hit on a jam that sounded akin to Blondie’s “Rapture” before the quartet concluded “Spraypaint Victory” and the concert without an encore.

The Disco Biscuits return to McKees Rocks on Friday night.
