Tedeschi Trucks featuring members of the Tedeschi Trucks Band continued a run of intimate Fireside Live concerts at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine on Saturday. Susan Tedeschi paired up with keyboardist Gabe Dixon to start the evening’s second set with a debut cover of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”

Bonnie Raitt originally released “I Can’t Make You Love Me” on her 1991 studio album, Luck Of The Draw. The song was penned by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin with the studio version featuring Bruce Hornsby on piano.

Susan channeled Raitt while Dixon emulated Hornsby’s signature piano part for their “I Can’t Make You Love Me” duet in Portland. The cover debut came as part of a concert that saw Tedeschi and fellow guitarist/bandleader Derek Trucks joined by Dixon, drummer Tyler Greenwell, vocalist Mike Mattison and bassist Brandon Boone.

Saturday’s show began with a nine-song set bookended by covers of Paul Pena’s “Gotta Move” and Derek And The Dominos’ “Tell The Truth.” TTB originals played in the frame were “Do I Look Worried,” “Bound For Glory” and “Don’t Let Me Slide.” Additionally, the sextet offered takes on Willie Nelson’s “Somebody Pick Up My Pieces,” The Lovin Spoonful’s “Darlin’ Be Home Soon” and “Joyful Noise” from Derek’s time in The Derek Trucks Band to fill out the first set in Portland.

The rest of the stripped-down TTB lineup emerged following Tedeschi and Dixon’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” performance on Saturday for “Misunderstood.” Gabe and Susan then traded verses on Elmore James’ blues classic “Done Somebody Wrong.” The second set in Portland rolled on with Made Up Mind standout “Part Of Me” along with a run of Derek And The Dominos’ “Anyday,” Sleepy John Estes’ “Leaving Trunk” and the Tedeschi solo gem, “Looking For Answers.”

Derek Trucks shined on the enusing “Shame” before Tedeschi Trucks closed the set with their rendition of Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “That Did It.” The sextet returned to the stage for a “Space Captain” encore.
