Tedeschi Trucks featuring a stripped-down Tedeschi Trucks Band lineup launched a run of six Fireside Live 2022 performances last night in Beverly, Massachusetts. Led by guitarists Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, the group delivered a 16-song concert at The Cabot to start the excursion.
Susan and Derek were joined by keyboardist Gabe Dixon, bassist Brandon Boone, drummer Tyler Greenwell and vocalist Mike Mattison for the intimate gig in Beverly. Tedeschi Trucks took the stage after an opening set from Mavis Staples.
Tedeschi led the group on Leonard Cohen’s “Suzanne” and Made Up Mind gem “Do I Look Worried” to get Thursday’s set underway. Next, Susan and Gabe shared lead vocal duties on the Elmore James blues classic “Done Somebody Wrong” before the band took it down a notch for “When Will I Begin” off the TTB’s 2019 LP, Signs. Then, Mattison stepped into the spotlight in fronting Tedeschi Trucks on his own “Life Is Crazy.”
Last night’s main set rolled on with a mix of Tedeschi Trucks Band live staples such as “Part Of Me,” “Let Me Get By” and “Midnight In Harlem” as well as a handful of choice covers. Tedeschi belted out The Beatles’ “I’ve Got A Feeling,” while Trucks shined on a pairing of Derek & The Dominos’ Layla classics “Bell Bottom Blues” and “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad?”
The six-piece treated fans to takes on Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” and Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “I Pity The Fool” to finish off the frame. For the encore, Tedeschi Trucks looked to the Derek Trucks Band catalog in closing out the night with “Get What You Deserve.”
