Tedeschi Trucks Band Welcomes Jack Pearson & Tony Joe White In Nashville
By Andy Kahn Mar 4, 2017 • 10:15 am PST
The Ryman Auditorium hosted the second of three straight nights of the Tedeschi Trucks Band Friday evening. The two set performance featured a pair of guests sitting-in with the group at the famed Nashville venue.
The recently incorporated arrangement of Nina Simone’s “Revolution” opened up the first set at The Ryman. Originals “Made Up Mind” and “Do I Look Worried” were trailed by regularly played covers “Isn’t Pity,” “Keep On Growing” and “Get Out My Life, Woman.” TTB also offered “Don’t Drift Away” and “Key To The Highway” within the first set.
Noted session musician and solo performer, guitarist Tony Joe White was brought on board to start set two, assisting on a performance of “Back To The River” – the title track to Susan Tedeschi’s 2008 solo album which he co-wrote. Derek Trucks and the band filled the rest of the set with “Bound For Glory,” “Just As Strange,” “Crying Over You” and “Let Me Get By” spread among covers of “Sticks And Stones,” “Darlin’ I’ll Be Home Soon” and “I Pity The Fool.” The encore began with Tedeschi leading the ensemble on their commonly paired covers of “Angel From Montgomery” by John Prine and the Grateful Dead’s “Sugaree.” At that point former The Allman Brothers Band guitarist Jack Pearson sat-in on a show closing cover of Joe Cocker’s “Space Captain.”
TTB returns to The Ryman tonight for another show. Watch video captured by audience members at last evening’s concert below:
