The Tedeschi Trucks Band Welcomes Chris Robinson In Oakland

On Friday the Tedeschi Trucks Band completed a two-night stand at the Fox Theater in Oakland. While the first night saw Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers open, the second night was “An Evening With The Tedeschi Trucks Band.” There was, however, one extra musician as Chris Robinson sat-in on the evening’s second encore.

Robinson emerged at the end of the TTB’s 24-song performance in the Bay Area. The band’s main set saw them play a number of songs they hadn’t performed the night before including the Derek Trucks showcase “Midnight In Harlem,” Susan Tedeschi showcases “Angel From Montgomery” and “Sugarree” as well as the Derek Trucks Band classic “Swamp Raga,” the Blind Faith hit “Had To Cry Today” and the group’s smoking cover of Derek & The Dominos’ “Keep On Growing.”

Chris Robinson, who had aided the TTB on their legendary Mad Dogs & Englishmen set at Lockn’ ’15, came out at the end of the show to join the group on a pair of covers. First up was Bob Dylan’s “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere,” a song the Tedeschi Trucks Band played a handful of times during this summer’s Wheels Of Soul Tour. The night ended the Mad Dogs & Englishmen gem “Space Captain.” Not only have the TTB covered “Space Captain” over 50 times since forming, it was a staple of The Black Crowes’ repertoire.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band tour continues tonight in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
