Tedeschi Trucks Band continued their trend of performing complete albums during their show last night at the Beacon Theatre, with the recently released album I Am the Moon: II. Ascension played in its entirety. The band previously offered complete renderings of their I Am The Moon: III. The Fall album on opening night of their current Beacon residency and followed with I Am The Moon: IV. Farewell on night two.

I Am the Moon: II. Ascension was released in July following the June release of I Am The Moon: I. Crescent. Two additional volumes of the four-part album followed as I Am The Moon: III. The Fall arrived later in July and I Am The Moon: IV. Farewell landed in August.

Night three at the lauded New York City venue began with Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi steering their bandmates through the seven songs that comprise I Am the Moon: II. Ascension. Saturday’s show started with the Ascension album opener “Playing With My Emotions.” The ensemble subsequently rolled out the rest of the songs in the order they appeared on the record, serving up “Ain’t That Something,” “All the Love,” “So Long Savior,” “Rainy Day,” “La Di Da” and “Hold That Line.”

After completing the album, Tedeschi Trucks Band tacked on two songs before taking a set break, selecting a cover of the Four Tops’ “Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever” and their “Whiskey Legs ”

The second set started with Bob Dylan’s “Down In The Flood.” TTB original “Hard Case” came next, followed by a trio of covers, “Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?” by Derek & The Dominos, “Smoke Ring Halo” by The Wood Brothers, and the B.B. King popularized “How Blue Can You Get.” Regular favorites “Anyhow” and “Midnight Harlem” surrounded a cover of “The Letter” and The Allman Brothers Band’s instrumental “Little Martha.”

“Key to the Highway” (which appeared on Derek & Dominos’ Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs album) and “Bound for Glory” were the last songs of the set. Another Derek & The Dominos tune, “Tell The Truth,” held down the encore slot and brought the evening’s concert to an end.

TTB’s seven-show residency at the Beacon continues tomorrow, Monday, October 3. Listen to an audience recording of Saturday’s Tedeschi Trucks Band show posted by Eric Lugassy and watch audience-shot video footage below:
