Tedeschi Trucks Band started their 2022 residency at The Beacon Theatre on Thursday with the first of seven shows at the New York City venue. Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks led the group through a complete performance of their recently released I Am The Moon: III. The Fall album to kick off last night’s concert.

I Am The Moon: III. The Fall was the third of four I Am The Moon volumes put out by TTB between June and August. The 12-piece ensemble took the stage following a set by Amy Helm and got the residency underway with the live debut of The Fall opener “Somehow.” The group then premiered the tender “None Above” before romping through the high-octane “Yes We Will” for just the seventh time.

Tedeschi Trucks Band continued working through the six-song album with keyboardist Gabe Dixon helming “Gravity,” a song he co-wrote for I Am The Moon: III. The Fall with Oliver Wood. Next, vocalist stepped into the spotlight to deliver “Emmaline.” The live premiere of the album’s closer “Take Me As I Am” brought The Fall portion of the concert to a close.

Derek Trucks has not only played nearly 50 shows at The Beacon with his current band but he also performed at this historic venue over 100 times during his run from 1999 through 2014 as a member of The Allman Brothers Band. Trucks honored the ABB by fronting a compact TTB lineup on a complete version of Allmans instrumental “Les Brers In A Minor” following The Fall. The rest of the band then returned for a take on Derek And The Dominos’ “Bell Bottom Blues.” Next, Made Up Mind standout “Part Of Me” gave way to a cover of Dr. John’s “I Walk On Guilded Splinters.”

Tedeschi Trucks Band focused on live staples from 2013’s Made Up Mind to end the main set on Thursday. “Do I Look Worried” was paired with “It’s So Heavy” and then the LP’s title track closed the frame following a well-jammed “Let Me Get By” showcasing saxophonist Kebbi Williams. The group capped the night by covering Taj Mahal’s “Leaving Trunk” and The Coasters’ “Let’s Go Get Stoned” as the encore. It’s back to the Beacon for the TTB tonight.
